A glance at another song of the upcoming album: Where Do I Go? That’s Peter Jensen on bass, David Askvig on drums. And the smooth B3 sounds are coming from the great Jeremy Abernathy.

Here’s a peak at David Askvig tracking drums for a song my upcoming album. The song is called Alleyways and Pavement.

For those who know me, you know this is way outside of my comfort zone.  Don Worcestor talked me into playing some music on a ferry just north Vancouver, BC as we returned from Malibu.  I must admit, I enjoyed far more than I would have thought.

On Monday, Mickey Raphael joined me in my studio in Salt Lake City.  He’s played on three songs from the upcoming album that most likely you’ve not heard…unless you were involved in the Study in Creative Frustration.  Only one came out of that and Mickey played on it – Alleyways and Pavement.  He also played on The World is a Charlatan and To Broken Sound.

It’s quite the honor to have him join me in the studio when he’s in town.  He’s always got great stories and gives careful though to the songs he’s playing on.

Here’s a couple of photos:

The book I wrote and released last year is now available for your eReaders.  Below is the link to iBooks from Apple.  But it should be available in most eStores now.  If not, any day now!  Enjoy.

An Oak Tree Late in Winter – Josh Rosenthal

I found out the other day that a decent amount of folks search “josh rosenthal no more lies” on YouTube.  I posted the audio to the song on Black Manor’s YouTube account .

I’m in discussion with a few folks about making a video for the song.  More to come soon.

The difference between tracking with a real leslie and a fake one is as significant as you might imagine.  Real is always ideal.  Obviously.  Jeremy Abernathy tracked organ and wurli last week for my new album in my studio space I share with Johnny Cowan.  Jeremy is one of the best players I’ve ever heard.

Also, last week Ben Robie wrapped up electric guitars.  Many of you have seen him with me over the years.  You know that his gifting is tremendous, but I feel like his effort on this album will shock you.  It’s so good.

Cheers.

Ben Robie tracking guitars on my new album.

Well, not quite yet.

For the past eight months I’ve given myself to my responsibilities at Missio Dei Community and writing and recording a new album.  I’ve released 9 EPs as a solo artist.  Seven of which are available on iTunes and other digital music outlets.  But now, finally, I’m releasing a full length album.

In the last eight months, I have been shaped significantly by my community at Missio Dei.  They have challenged, supported and encouraged me in my worship leading, writing, performing and producing.  In fact, I moved my studio out of my house and into Missio’s community space in the Avenues.  I’ve felt nothing but tremendous support.  I believe this album will be very different from others because of these relationships.

As the fall approaches, I’ll get back into traveling and playing more.  I’ve got a few dates in Seattle, British Columbia, Dallas, Lubbock, Arkansas and more.  Maybe I’ll see you out there.

Most of all, I’m excited for you to hear this new album.

Talk to you soon.

I wrote this song after last week’s sermon by Kyle Costello at Missio Dei Community.

Week 6
We lie down among the safe, dark skies
The night once scared us, but now gives us rest
The song the shepherd sings over us brings peace
Hope to the fearful, death has lost its sting

He leads to greener pastures
Even after all, our wayward hearts rebelled and ran away
He drew us in and reconciled and let us catch our breath

Once slaves, we searched the ground for food
But now we dine at the table with the King
He pours the wine as he poured his blood for us
Food for the hungry, faith where dread once was

The king of kings speaks with a shepherd’s voice
The king of kings sings a shepherd’s song
The king of kings speaks with a shepherd’s voice
The king of kings sings a shepherd’s song
I belong to him I hear his voice
I belong to him I sing his song
I belong to him I hear his voice
I belong to him I sing his song
